Description
Farms4Climate is a European project coordinated by the AIR Institute that drives the transformation of Mediterranean agriculture through carbon-neutral farming practices and smart governance models. Its aim is to improve the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of smallholder farmers by creating digital tools, Living Labs, and business models based on carbon sequestration. The project combines technological innovation and agroecological approaches to promote more resilient, inclusive, and climate-positive agriculture.
Goals
- Facilitate the transition to carbon-sustainable agriculture.
- Improve the profitability of smallholder farmers through carbon credits.
- Develop digital tools for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV).
- Foster rural entrepreneurship and the sustainable economy.
- Promote regenerative and climate-positive farming models.
Activities
- Creation of Living Labs in various Mediterranean countries to experiment with and validate regenerative agriculture practices.
- Development of digital tools for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of carbon sequestration on farms
- Design of AI and blockchain-based platforms for carbon credit management and decision-making.
- Implementation of collaborative governance models among farmers, researchers, and technology companies.
- Validation of agroecological practices and analysis of their economic, social, and environmental impact in real-world settings.
