Methodology of the Retoraya territorial observatory
The RETORAYA Territorial Observatory is an information and analysis tool that compiles comparable indicators on the municipalities participating in the project, offering an up-to-date view of their demographic, social, economic, and territorial realities. Its objective is to facilitate knowledge of the territory and support decision-making by public administrations, entities, and citizens.
The information published in the Observatory has been compiled using a proprietary methodology based on the collection, validation, standardization, and systematization of data from official public sources in Spain and Portugal, guaranteeing the traceability, reliability, and comparability of all indicators.
A process of prospecting and analysis of statistical, administrative, and territorial information was carried out, originating from, among other organizations, the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE), the Portuguese National Institute of Statistics (INE Portugal), PORDATA, SEPE, the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP), the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, ANACOM, ADIF, Comboios de Portugal (CP), as well as various regional, national, and local bodies with jurisdiction in each of the areas analyzed.
The methodology applied allows for the integration of information from diverse sources using consistent processing criteria, while respecting the statistical and administrative particularities of both countries. In this way, the Observatory offers comparable indicators for the territories of Salamanca, Zamora, and the Intermunicipal Community of Douro (CIM Douro), maintaining maximum fidelity to the officially published information.
The indicators cover strategic areas such as demographics, the labor market, the business sector, housing, education, healthcare, social services, mobility, transportation, digital connectivity, financial services, territorial resources, and other factors relevant to the socioeconomic and territorial analysis of the Spanish-Portuguese border region.
In addition to statistical indicators, the Observatory includes an inventory of strategic programs and initiatives and a set of georeferenced territorial resources, enriching the analysis with qualitative and spatial information and offering a more comprehensive view of the territory.
