Description

MOAI LABS is a European project that promotes the creation of the first transnational collective intelligence and open innovation laboratory focused on combating unwanted loneliness and social isolation among older adults. The project combines research, social innovation, and technology to develop solutions that improve the quality of life, autonomy, and social participation of older people. Through a "living lab" approach, it integrates the participation of people with direct experience, professionals, public administrations, technology companies, and research institutions to co-create and validate innovative solutions.

Goals

  • Promote innovative solutions to combat unwanted loneliness and social isolation.
  • Encourage business investment in social technologies through innovative public procurement. 
  • Create a transnational open innovation lab based on collaboration among public, private, and social actors. Improve the autonomy, safety, and well-being of older adults. 
  • Promote knowledge transfer and the integration of user experience into public policy design.

Activities

  1. Creation of a transnational living lab for experimenting with solutions to combat unwanted loneliness. 
  2. Development of studies on the current state of loneliness and the needs of older adults living alone. 
  3. Design of open innovation challenges to promote technological and social solutions.
  4. Participation of experienced experts, early-stage advocacy groups, and community stakeholders in co-creation processes.
  5. Evaluation and validation of innovative solutions in real-world settings.
  6. Transfer of results to public policies and social intervention strategies. 
  7. Creation of a repository of best practices on loneliness and social isolation at the European level.
